Rough Cut Feedback

After finishing the rough cuts of my music magazine I asked members of my target audience what they liked about it, and what they thought I could improve. I have included the responses I was given below.

Front cover

What they liked:

·         Title

·         Blue background for stories

·         Artists

·         Website

·         Strong image

·         Clear style

·         Good photo

·         Composition of shot

·         Text on the left

·         Font used

·         Picture on the front cover

·         Colours and picture

·         Style of title and fonts

·         Professional looking image

·         Good layout

·         Colour scheme is good

Things that could be improved:

·         More details about story – page feels empty

·         Play with logo to make it more obvious

·         Picture is too bright

·         Too much space

·         No numbers on bar code

·         Title could be sans serif font

·         Page seems a bit empty

·         Picture is quite white and can see where the image has not been cut out properly

·         Image looks too bright (on face)

·         Background is too bright

·         Too light

·         More writing needed

·         Photo is a bit too light

·         Change brightness on photo so picture stands out more

Contents page:

What they liked:

·         Great! Neat, very good

·         Really good! Lots of info, good mix of pictures, text and colour

·         Colour scheme is good as are photos and fonts

·         Love! Photos, layout

·         Good layout

·         Like how cover is incorporated

·         Love the layout

·         Fab, really professional. Like how you have a picture of the front cover included

·         The layout is good

·         Structure

Things that could be improved:

·         Some images are a little too crooked and some messy overlapping at bottom

·         Try to fill any dead spaces

·         3 similar photos, change

·         Tilt photos less

·         Image used twice

·         Images look similar (positioning)

·         Different bottom image

·         More varied shots for your pictures

·         Too light

·         Change photos to have more variation in shots

Double page spread:

What they liked:

·         Like hand-written

·         ‘I’ in background

·         Shoes

·         Text is brilliantly presented

·         Great image, use of colour and branding

·         Really like the way you have written around the picture

·         Layout is great! Like the ‘I’

·         Layout

·         Photo

·         Like the doodles

·         The writing around the picture

·         Good article and images

·         Really like scribbled text

·         Photo is good

Things that could be improved:

·         Dead space to fill at the top.

·         Feels like separate pages – find a way to blend

·         Up the contrast on the scanned image – a bit pale

·         Sheepish photo

·         Don’t like the big ‘I’

·         Darker blue could be used

·         The ‘I’ behind the writing and the written text around model

·         Blue of questions is quite hard to see

·         Light blue writing seems to hidden

·         Smaller image

·         Clearer writing

·         Justify text

·         Could add a title so it is more clearer to see what the page is

I am going to use this feedback to develop my rough cuts of my magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread. This will help me to make a magazine that is more appealing to my target audience.
